The Yo Yo has enjoyed many years of popularity throughout world history as a second oldest toy in the world after dolls. It is believed that the Yo Yo most likely originated in China. The first historical mention of a yoyo is however from Greece in the year 500BC. These ancient toys were made out of wood, metal or painted terra cotta discs. Such yoyos made of terra cotta are on display in museum in Athens. there are pictures of yo yo’s on the walls in Egyptian temples and on objects. The Yo Yo also traveled to the Philippines in the 16th century. The next historical mention is in India in 1765. it is painting of a lady playing with a Yo Yo. Within the next 25 years the Yo Yo travelled to Europe and the rest of the world.
